What is DarkThrone?
DarkThrone is a free, strategic text-based MMORPG you play in your browser. Build an empire, raise and train armies, forge clans, run espionage, raid rivals for gold and climb the global rankings.
Is DarkThrone free to play?
Yes — completely free, with no download required. Create an account and start building your empire in your browser in seconds. Optional supporter perks exist but are never required to compete.
What kind of game is DarkThrone?
A persistent multiplayer strategy war game in the classic "Dark Throne" style: manage resources, train offensive and defensive units, upgrade buildings, run spy operations and wage war against thousands of other players.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. DarkThrone runs entirely in your web browser on desktop and mobile — there is nothing to install. Just create a free account and play.
How do I start playing?
Create a free account, choose your race and class, then train citizens into soldiers, raise your fortifications and grow your gold income. New players get protection early on while they learn the ropes.
How does combat work?
Spend turns attacking other players to steal gold and damage their fort. Your offense is weighed against the defender's defense; stronger armies, better equipment and battle upgrades tip the odds. Holding your defense protects your gold.
What is spying and espionage?
Spies scout rivals, steal intel and sabotage enemies, while spy-defense (sentries) protects you from being scouted. Espionage is a core layer of strategy alongside open warfare.
Can I play with friends and join a clan?
Yes. Form or join clans, share intelligence, coordinate wars and climb the clan rankings together. Alliances and rivalries are a big part of the endgame.
How often does the game update?
The world ticks every 30 minutes, adding gold income and citizens, so there is always a reason to return. Turns let you attack and act throughout the day.
Does DarkThrone reset? Will I keep my progress?
Yes — DarkThrone is a seasonal game. At the end of each phase the entire world resets, so every new season starts fresh and fair for everyone. Right now the realm is in its Beta season, with the next reset on 1 October 2026, 00:00 GMT.
What are the game phases (seasons)?
DarkThrone rolls out in seasons, each longer than the last and separated by a full reset: Pre-alpha (from 14 December 2025, exclusive to Lord of Chains players); Alpha (1 January 2026, three months); Beta (1 April to 1 October 2026, six months); and Launch (1 October 2026 to 1 October 2027, a full year).
